Monday Evening at Camp

A great first afternoon at camp. After lunch in the dining hall, the kids went off with their  daytime field groups for a chance to get to know their surroundings.

Fall is in the air. A brisk, fresh air and leaves are turning.

The first step for the kids to get to know their surroundings in to put on a blindfold a see what they can find. In this game, the kids are led blindfolded to a tree by their buddy, then after a hug and smell, they have the blindfold removed and they try to see if they can find out which one they made friends with.

This one smells like cinnamon...maybe?

The kids are regularly reminded to drink lots of water here at 7,000 ft elevation. On the trail there a plenty of drinking games.

Just before dinner it was moving in time. Moving bags to the cabin kicked up a good bit of dust and more than a few laughs.

The kids will have some time in their cabins after dinner to get settled in. Here at Camp High Trails the instructors teach a program called 'Tribes', which is intended to help the cabin-mates build camaraderie, and to assist the kids in becoming more comfortable in their new home for the week.

Once the sun sets, our evening activity is a lesson on nocturnal animals. Should be a perfect night to go for a walk, enjoy a dark sky, and learn about the animals that come to life when the sun sets.
